# English Brown Ale Modified version of the Mr Brown clone brewed on 2020-03-01, but less roasty (no Chocolate nor Brown Malts). Brewed as the third beer of a parti-gyle comprised of: 1. English Pale Ale (19L) 2. Orange & Chokecherry Saison (11L) 3. English Brown Ale (19L) ## Ingredients | Name | Amount | |---------------------------------- |---------- | | Innomalt Pale Anglais | 1.8 kg | | Gambrinus Vienna Malt | 1 kg | | Oio Toasted Wheat | 250g | | Briess Victory Malt | 250g | | Briess Special Roast Malt | 250g | | Maltbroue Caramel Malt 40L | 200g | ## Hops | Name | Amount | Alpha | Form | Use | |---------------- |-------- | ------- | --------- | ------------- | | Golding | 30 g | ? | Pellet | Boil, 60 mins | | Golding | 15 g | ? | Pellet | Boil, 15 mins | | Chinook | 100 g | ? | Leaf | Dry Hop | ## Yeast | Name | Code | | ---------------------------------------------- | ------- | | White Labs Burton Ale Yeast Blend | WLP023 | ## Brewing Steps ### Mash * Amount: 19L * Time: 60 mins * Strike Temperature: 72°C * Target Temperature: 67°C ### Sparge * Amount: 7L * Target Temperature: 67°C ### Boil * Amount: 24L * Time: 60 mins ## Notes Good overall volume in the carboy. Dry-hopped on 2020-11-22. Bottled on 2020-12-06. Opened the first bottle on 2020-12-24. It's not a Brown Ale at all, more like a low-ABV English Pale Ale. It's not bad though and it's very drinkable! I don't think trying to do a parti-gyle for malt-forward styles like this is a good idea. In a next iteration, I would try to go back to last Brown I brewed and halve the specialty grains.
